About the Captain Captain Terry Nugent... Originally from Holbrook MA, Captain Terry Nugent has been fishing the lakes, ponds and coastal waters from New England to Florida for over 30 years. In 1998 that experience was put to good use and Riptide Charters was born. As a professional guide, Terry is also the captain of the Navionics Tournament Team. With major Striped Bass tournament top 10 finishes to his name and several top 3 finishes in ASA and FLW events. Terry has proven successful with inshore species and offshore pelagics from the islands to the canyons. He has guided his sports to a Massachusetts Governors’ Cup and back to back 2006/2007 IGFA World Records for Thresher and Blue Shark.
In addition to the accolades, Terry is best known for helping to mainstream a booming New England School Bluefin casting fishery. An uncanny ability to put novices and experts alike within reach of trophy school Bluefin has made him the face of inshore Cape Cod tuna casting. A neo-fishery that is evolving at an exponential rate, Terry continues to foster innovation by serving on the design and field testing teams for Navionics, Salty’s Lures, Ocean Saltwater Lures, Offshore Innovations, and Hogy Lures as well as his own line of inshore Tuna spinning rods (Riptide Big Gun). An IGFA certified Captain, Terry is also on the Pro Staff for Mercury Marine, Costa Del Mar, St. Croix Fishing Rods, and Shimano Reels.
Over the past decade Terry has been sharing his enthusiasm and knowledge gained from a life spent on the water with the fishing public through a variety of media. Terry has appeared in several TV shows from the local “On the Water” on NESN to international TV with Bob Izumi’s Real Fishing on Versus and The Spanish Fly on ESPN2 and The Outdoor Channel. Terry has also been featured in several books and publications including “Tuna on the Fly” (Gilmore, 2006), Saltwater Sportsman, Center Console Angler, Northeast Boating, On the Water, Field and Stream, Fishing Boats Registry, and The Fisherman Magazine. During the off-season Terry occupies his time tinkering with tackle, at the local fishing shows and speaking at Clubs and Seminars large and small. Terry is a frequent guest speaker for the Buzzards Bay Anglers Club, Osterville Anglers Club, The Cape Cod Salties, CCA, “BFT” seminar (’08 & ’09), Tuna Mania (’07 & ’08), Big Game Bash ('10 & '11), and The Saltwater Sportsman National Seminar Series ('06 & '11).
Being centrally located now in Bourne, MA allows Terry to put you on the fish no matter where they move. Remaining mobile, he is capable of launching from one of over a dozen ramps on or around the Cape to ensure that you spend less time taking a "boat ride" and more time fishing where the fish are.
While we don’t mind taking the occasional fish home for the grill, we encourage "catch and release" and hope to preserve our great fishery on the Cape and Islands. Remember...photos last forever, resources don't.
Capt. Terry Nugent has provided many fishermen with their most memorable days on the water catching Bass, Blues and Tuna... book now for the 2011 season and give yourself the chance to experience an unforgettable day "On The Water".
About the Crew Captain Shaun Ruge...
“Ruge” as he’s known is the quintessential utility player. From his uncanny ability to find fish consistently, to his skills shooting smooth video in gale force conditions, to his skills on the rod, to near perfect gaff placement every time, Ruge does it all and more importantly does it all WELL.
Ruge’s role behind the scenes and his tireless prep work are no less impressive. From making bait in the dead of night to cleaning and rigging the boat and gear, he makes sure everything is just right.
(MATE) BIG Mike Ciolek...
BIG Mike adds not only size and strength to the Riptide team, but temperance. Big Mike is the keel that is sometimes needed to keep things on a level plane. That’s not to say that BIG Mike doesn’t bring emotion to the game. When things are slow it’s BIG Mike that puts on the rally cap and gets things going
BIG Mike has mated for our two successful World Record attempts. His patience and eye for detail are uncanny. Not to mention his eye for birds and fish. BIG Mike can see birds at distances that required the rest of us to have binoculars.
(MATE) Sam Riley...
Sam is the newest member of the Riptide Team. Sam's skills on the boat are second only to his skills behind the camera. As a professional photographer Sam gets the shots that make you say WOW!
Sam's mated on several canyon trips as well as inshore tuna trips and continues to display an amazing attention to detail in every aspect of the game. His extensive background in flyfishing and kayaking help add another dimension and round out the Riptide Team!
About the Rig
Since Riptide Charters trailers exclusively, its only fitting that we utilize the the most reliable and most comfortable tow vehicle available. This year our good friends at Balise Ford have provided us with a 2011 Ford F350 Lariat Super Duty to transport the Riptide and our sports to the water in total comfort. The only thing more comfortable than riding in the Riptide is towing it with the new Ford F350!!! About the Boat
Riptide Charters has pulled out all the stops by introducing the latest in cutting-edge fishing boats: The new Contender 33T!!! What ever you have in mind for your charter, our new boat can handle it.
Knowledgeable anglers know how hard-core and fishing-oriented Contender boats are. Built on a brand-new high-performance hull, the 33T has a 9-foot, 8-inch beam and a 34-foot, 5-inch L.O.A. This commanding vessel easily handles the new 2011 ultra quiet twin 300 HP Supercharged Mercury Verado 4 Strokes.
When choosing your charter, consider what a larger and more capable boat can do for you. If the waters get rough on the day of your trip, a larger faster boat gives you many more options. This can often be the difference between a day of fishing and a day of catching. Comfort is another factor to consider. During the summer the winds around Cape Cod pick up every afternoon. This makes the ride home rough and tedious in a smaller boat. Our new Contender 33T quickly and comfortably runs through rough water that keeps lesser boats at the dock.
The boat features two state of the art Raymarine E-WIDE Series Color Touch Screen multifuntion displays with NAVIONICS Platinum+ Charts. The electronics include fully integrated Hi-Definition Radar, GPS Chart Plotter, Fish Finder, SIRIUS satellite weather and Autopilot. With safety being paramount, the most advanced safety equipment is featured, including a Raymarine DSC VHF, ACR EPIRB (Satellite Rescue Beacon), Revere 6 Man Liferaft and all USCG required safety equipment.
The huge flush decks means there is plenty of room for fly-fishing and fully padded gunnels means you can comfortably fight the big ones. The boat also features a stand up head for your convenience.
About The Gear
We will provide you with top quality light tackle from Shimano Reels and St. Croix rods.
Riptide Charters also features a full complement of stand-up offshore gear featuring Shimano Tiagra Reels for tuna trolling and shark fishing.
And as always, there is plenty of room onboard for your own favorite rods and reels if you choose to bring them.
